So my path towards understanding the subject is very different than the path one would take today. I first started coding Verilog for RTL synthesis in 1993. That’s actually a more difficult question than you might think.
Specifically you need to learn how to create a project and program the board. That will get you familiar with using the Vivado IDE. But First.īefore starting on this tutorial, you should do the first tutorial on the ZedBoard site. Follow the directions that come with the board to redeem your license.
The ZedBoard comes with a license for the ZYNQ 7020 part on the board. Make sure you download release 2014.4 or later.
You will need to download the Xilinx Vivado software from the Xilinx website. However, I will also try to provide links and tips for using Windows. I use Linux so the examples may be biased in that direction. You can follow along with the tutorial using either Linux or Windows. The PmodENC rotary encoder and the PmodSSD seven segment display. This tutorial will also uses two Digilent Pmod boards. The main difference between the boards is that the ZedBoard has an FMC expansion connector and a more powerful FPGA. A good alternative board for this tutorial is the ZYBO board (also from Digilent). You can purchase a ZedBoard from Avnet Express for $395, or from Digilent for $495 ($319 Academic). Links to these products are provided below. The tutorial uses the Digilent PmodENC and PmodSSD peripheral boards.
The board used in the examples is the ZedBoard, but you could use pretty much any ZYNQ development board that supports Pmod interfaces. It will start the installation. This tutorial is intended as a simple introduction to FPGAs using the Xilinx ZYNQ SoC FPGA. The installation will require a lot of time too. Point to be noted – Both the download and extraction will need a lot of time depending upon internet speed and storage availability. After the extraction, the file name should be – ‘Xilinx_ISE_DS_Win_14.7_1015.1”. To unzip the file, right-click on the file, and there will be an option to extract all. You can choose according to your requirement and choice from the below given link. There are other downloadable options available.
(It is a 6GB ZIP file, ensure internet connection and space) The link for windows – The link to download Xilinx is given below – Step 1: Download the software from the internet. What is VHDL? What is the difference between Verilog & VHDL? Xilinx Installation Process We are demonstrating this tutorial for windows only. The license will be mailed in that email-id. Create an account on Xilinx’s website with an accessible email-id.At least 20 GB space is needed in your machine. A healthy amount of free memory is required to run the software smoothly. An uninterrupted internet connection is a must.At least bits of knowledge of basic logic gates and sequential circuits are required. Must have some knowledge of digital electronics.
First of all learn Verilog! Click Here! Prerequisites for Verilog using Xilinxīefore getting started with Verilog with Xilinx, there are some prerequisites for an user. Though some of the coding structure of Verilog is same as VHDL, there are fundamental differences between them. Xilinx is also used for VHDL implementations.
We will use Xilinx’s software “ISE 14.7 Simulator to implement Verilog designs. Xilinx is a USA based tech-company which provides programmable logic devices. Creating your first Verilog project with XILINX XILINX Prerequisites for Verilog HDL Using Xilinxĭ.
